British Columbia VEX Robotics.

Teams, tournaments, rankings and Worlds results from BC's VEX competition scene — tracked season by season, updated after every event sync.

British Columbia has one of the deepest VEX Robotics scenes in Canada. Teams from the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island play from late summer through the winter, then carry BC's banner to the VEX Robotics World Championship in the spring. This page is the way into that record: the programs BC teams compete in, how a season is structured, how teams earn a Worlds spot, and where to follow every result.

The programs BC teams compete in

VEX V5 Robotics Competition (V5RC) is the main BC field: middle and high school teams, two-alliance matches, judged awards and the Robot Skills Challenge. Nearly every BC tournament you see on this site is a V5RC event.

VEX U is the college division, fielded by university and college teams. BC's VEX U teams are small in number but compete globally, and Penguin tracks their season rankings and Worlds campaigns alongside the high school and middle school data.

VEX IQ Robotics Competition serves elementary and middle school students and runs as its own BC league with separate organizers and events. It is not part of this dataset — Penguin's coverage is V5RC and VEX U.

How the BC season runs

VEX reveals a new game each May. BC teams register over the summer and play qualifiers, invitationals and scrimmages from late August through February, usually hosted at schools and robotics academies around the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley — Richmond, Burnaby, Delta, Surrey, Port Moody and West Vancouver. The winter finishes with BC's provincial championships, run with the Pacific Youth Robotics Society (PYRS) and other event partners, before the VEX Robotics World Championship in April.

Every event on the BC calendar is listed on the events page, grouped by season, with schedules, qualification and playoff brackets, awards and skills runs once results are synced.

How BC teams qualify for Worlds

Worlds spots come from two directions. Judged awards and tournament performance at BC regional events and the provincial championships carry direct invitations — Excellence, Tournament Champions and the other judged awards. Separately, the Robot Skills Challenge runs all season: a team's best Driver Skills plus best Programming Skills scores feed VEX's official global standings, and the top teams in those standings earn spots. Penguin tracks both, which is why the rankings and Robot Skills pages sit side by side, and why BC at Worlds records how each qualified team finished.

Get involved

Students usually join through a school team, a district program or a community robotics organization. If your school has no team, a teacher or parent can register one with the REC Foundation and enter events from the BC calendar. Events also need volunteers, judges and referees — the volunteer portal lists open shifts, and contact reaches the people who keep this record.

British Columbia VEX Robotics: questions

What is VEX Robotics in British Columbia?
VEX Robotics is a competitive STEM program where student teams design, build and program robots for a new game each season. In British Columbia, VEX teams compete in the VEX V5 Robotics Competition (V5RC) for middle and high school and VEX U for college, with events across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley and provincial championships before the VEX Robotics World Championship in April.
Does Penguin Robotics cover VEX IQ in BC?
No. Penguin tracks the VEX V5 Robotics Competition (V5RC) and VEX U: rankings, events, matches, Robot Skills and Worlds campaigns. VEX IQ in British Columbia runs as its own elementary and middle school league with separate organizers, so its results are not part of this dataset.
How do BC VEX teams qualify for the VEX Worlds?
Teams qualify through judged awards and tournament performance at BC regional events and the BC provincial championships, and through the Robot Skills Challenge, where combined Driver + Programming scores feed VEX's official global standings. Worlds spots are invited by the REC Foundation; Penguin tracks which BC teams qualified and how they finished.
When does the BC VEX season run?
VEX reveals a new game each May. BC teams register over the summer, play qualifiers and invitationals from late August through February, and finish with provincial championships in February or March. The VEX Robotics World Championship follows in April.
Where can I find BC VEX rankings and event results?
BC VEX rankings live at penguinrobotics.ca/rankings, Robot Skills standings at /skills, the tournament calendar and results at /events, and per-team history at /teams. Every event page lists its matches, skills runs and awards.
How do I join or start a VEX team in BC?
Most BC teams are based at a school, district program or community robotics organization. Ask your school about an existing team first; if there is none, a teacher or parent can register a new team with the REC Foundation and look for nearby events on the BC calendar. Volunteers, judges and event helpers are always needed too.
